I have declared 2018 to be the year of health for me. Don’t get me wrong, I am relatively healthy. My Blood pressure, cholesterol, and general physical health are good. My family relationships, my friendships, and my work life are good. My relationship with the Lord and my pursuit of Jesus is good. I’m good. Things are good. But as I read the pages of scripture, listen to wisdom from mentors and friends, and seek what the Lord wants for me, it is a rare occasion that the word “good” is included.
Words like great, adventure, more than you can ask or imagine, purpose, and passion are more common in those settings. I’m a little bored with good and I’m ready for great. I’m ready to pursue and live the life that God has been calling me to since the beginning of time. I’m ready to run toward all He has for me. I’m ready to live the life that John 10:10 describes as “life abundantly.” A life of good just isn’t good enough.
“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.”
The enemy can use good to rob you of great. He has been doing that to me for a while now. I find myself saying things like “It’s good,” “I’m good,” and “we’re good.” I’ve also been known to add “enough” to these as a way to not have to do hard work or push through awkward situations. But that changes now. I am committing to doing everything I can to take my life from good to great. I am committing to speaking the truth in love and to fighting for relationships over comfort. To fight for the heart over fighting to be right. To fighting to build over fighting to win. and I’d like to invite you on this journey with me.
This blog is designed to share my journey and allow you to be part of the process. To share what I’m learning and how it’s helping me in my pursuit of great. When we become the best version of ourselves, we are free to make our greatest contribution to our families, our relationships, and the Kingdom of God. Will you join me? Let’s be our best and let’s give our best.
Here’s to the rest of 2018 and all those who will join me on this adventure!
